One of these collaborations involves Prof. Dr. Martin J. Loessner, a professor of food microbiology at a Swiss university.
His research focusses on foodborne pathogens and their specific bacteriophages. Basic molecular biology research is used to derive novel and innovative applications for the detection and control of unwanted bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, and others.
These bacteriophages, or “phages” in short, are abundant in the nature, occurring in seawater, soil, and in humans. They are the natural enemy of bacteria and can help us to control dangerous pathogens. In the podcast below Prof. Dr. Loessner talks about the origins of the phage that became PhageGuard Listex.
